REMINDER: April 30 is the deadline for the first payment for the glamping trip
Our annual "glamping" trip is scheduled for August 1-4, 2025, in Annapolis Royal, NS. The cost will be $325 per person, double occupancy. The first payment is due by April 30, and the second payment is due by July 1. If possible please pay by e-transfer to <kvcc.tresur@gmail.com>, and notify Stephen that you have paid by e-mailing him at <kvcc.hospitality@gmail.com>.
At our club meeting on Feb 18, 2025, our Hospitality Director Stephen Almon gave a presentation; a revised version of his slides are available here. Also, he had this to add later:
I will supply a list of places where we can photograph and eat while on our trip. There will be lots more research done before the trip. Please do not assume I will find everything that is fun to do in the area! Don't be bashful in sending me suggestions even if you think they’ve been duplicated: I’d rather get two emails about one place than no emails.
Here is a rough timeline going forward...
The first payment is due by April 30 and the second payment is due by July 1. Instructions are in the slides.
We will have a meeting in July, approximately two weeks before the trip, to discuss logistics such as carpooling, our lunch program, and to discuss some of the places we think we’d like to prioritize while we’re there. We will not be planning the trip by the minute, but a little bit of discussion before we leave will help us once we’re there.
People have asked about staying in a room without a roommate. We can arrange that; I just need to know ahead of time, and the cost will be different. The motel does have smaller rooms to accommodate a single person, at a slightly lower room rate.
What will our two lunches look like for Saturday and Sunday? They will look the way we want them to look is the short answer. We have a lunch committee, who are always looking for extra volunteers, who take our preferences at the meeting we'll have in July, go to Costco a day or two before the trip, and purchase sandwich meats, bread, produce, fruit, granola bars, and other snacks. When we have our meeting in July, you can discuss any food allergies or aversions you may have, and we’ll do our very best to accommodate.
Here is a rough idea of what we’ll do while we’re there.
On Friday, August 1, we will leave for Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, which is where we will be staying. We will have reservations at a local restaurant for approximately 6pm, where we can enjoy a kickoff meal to start the trip - this has been a big hit the past few years.
On Saturday and Sunday, we will start exploring. On one of the two days we will remain in Annapolis Royal, where there is the historic village of Annapolis Royal, plus the historical gardens that are nearby. I’m sure we’ll find other good local spots to photograph. On the other day, we will head towards Wolfville, Grand Pré, and Blomidon. On one of those two days, to be decided later, we will find a nice place and have a barbecue as a group. We’ve done that for several years in a row and it’s a big hit. We will have people bring small tabletop barbecues.
One of the things about the trip to note is that not everybody has to do the same thing at the same time. Some people may want to go to the historical gardens and some people may not, for example. We have done a good job in the past of making sure that everyone got to see the things they wanted to see.
On Monday, August 4, we will have a group breakfast at a local restaurant. I try to find the ones where the locals go, as they seem to be best. From there, several people will come home driving through Nova Scotia and then into New Brunswick. I have heard a few people mention taking the Fundy Princess ferry home.
Over the weeks after the trip is over, we will ask you to put together some of your very best photographs for a slide show. The number of photos we want will depend on how many people go. We want to have a slide show that’s representative of the trip but not one that lasts 20 minutes.
If you have any questions between now and the time we go on the trip, please contact me at <kvcc.hospitality@gmail.com>, and I will do my best to answer them.
